Bastille release their new, fourth album in 2022. "Give Me The Future" follows three years after "Doom Days", which "only" reached number four after the two number one albums "Bad Blood" (2013) and "Wild World" (2016).
The British indie rock band from London describes the record as ambitious, a tribute to tech s and a glimpse of what might come. It explores both the possibilities of new technology and the darker side of online life. It was as playful as it was thoughtful, as dystopian as it was dance-floor friendly, and as electronic as Bastille had always been, he said. Oddly enough, songwriter Dan Smith had the idea before the pand. When the world collapsed and contact was often only possible via screens, work on "Give Me The Future" had already begun.
"Working on these songs in such an apocalyptic , with everyone sitting at home glued to screens, reinforced the feeling that it's become quite difficult at s to distinguish what's real and what's not. We live in the age of Fake News and lying world leaders. But online, you can be anyone. What that does to our self-image and relationships is enormous and fascinating," Smith says.
13 songs were eventually recorded by the quartet, consisting of Smith, Kyle Simmons, Will Farquarson and Chris "Woody" Wood. With the album announcement in the fall of 2021, the first single "No Bad Days" was released, accompanied by an official video co-directed by the band's leader.
