It has been 40 years since The Rolling Stones released the album "Tattoo You." The band and Universal are celebrating this anniversary with a couple of special birthday editions in 2021.

"Tattoo You" was originally released on August 24, 1981 by Rolling Stones Records. It is the 16th British and 18th American studio album by the English rock legends

The nine songs on the record are mostly studio outtakes recorded in the 1970s. Keith Richards commented, "The thing about 'Tattoo You' wasn't that we stopped writing new stuff, it was a matter of . We agreed that we wanted to tour, and we wanted to tour after a record. We didn't have to record a whole new album and start touring."

With "Start Me Up" is on "Tattoo You" also one of the most famous Stones songs ever. It reached number two on the US Billboard singles charts. The album reached number one in the US, number two in the UK and number three in Germany

For the new 40th Anniversary Editions, the album has been completely remastered and expanded. There are also a few unreleased tracks waiting

In addition to the remastered CD and LP, there is a double CD and double LP featuring the album and a "Lost & Found: Rarities" bonus disc with nine additional songs recorded during the same period as the original album. The archived tracks include "Living In The Heart Of Love", a signature Stones rock tune, a version of "Shame, Shame, Shame" recorded in 1963 by one of the band's blues heroes Jimmy Reed, their rendition of Dobie Gray's "Drift Away" and a reggae version of "Start Me Up".

Stones fans can also enjoy the limited edition "Tattoo You" 5-LP box set and a four-CD box set plus "Keith Richards" picture disc. Both contain the album and the rarities collection as well as the concert recording "Still Life: Wembley Stadium 1982" with 26 tracks from the band's London show in June of the same year as part of the "Tattoo You" tour.

The Wembley show includes live recordings of tracks from the then-new album, for example "Start Me Up", "Neighbours", "Little T&A" and "Hang Fire", as well as a few cover versions, including Eddie Cochran's "Twenty Flight Rock", "Just My Imagination" by the Temptations and "Going To A Go Go" by the Miracles.

Rounding out the deluxe box sets is a 124-page book with over 200 rare photos from the recording sessions and world tour, and interviews with producer Chris Kimsey and photographer Hubert Kretzschmar.
