Jazzhus Disk is an obscure label from Taiwan that has released several dozen releases and specializes mainly in cool jazz and bebop recordings from the 60s and 70s, in addition to a few stray newer titles. The collector Jazzhus Disk Presents 12 Groovy Tracks Of European Jazz: Rare Jazz, Cool Beats is a cross section of what the label has to offer and should ensure greater brand awareness. The result is a strange, mysterious CD with a track listing that is hard to place and that appears to have been randomly picked from the available catalog. At the same , it's all intriguing.

Jazz and Asia, especially Japan, have been a happy combination for years and it is a mecca for those who are looking for re-releases, remasters, special pressings and high resolution formats of somes long forgotten titles, but also of well-known material. It is always found in these parts on exotic pressings, both on CD and on vinyl. Of course, that's not all cheap, but for exclusivity and a good sound you somes have to go to the stock market. But also – just like in Europe and America – all kinds of budget releases appear, where it is somes difficult to separate the wheat from the chaff. To which category Jazzhus Disk now belongs is difficult to detee. In particular, it seems that the balance is tipping towards the second category.

Live songs are interspersed with studio recordings and on this compilation a selection is made of tracks of all kinds: from bebop to free jazz. 12 Groovy Tracks Of European Jazz: Rare Jazz, Cool Beats is an introduction to what else Jazzhus has to offer, provided those titles can of course be found, because a round of the internet only yielded a few hits from addresses where Jazzhus disks can be obtained. By the way, the title doesn't quite cover it, because don't expect jazz dance-like situations, it's all fairly conservative jazz to be found, barring exceptions. Also, not all music comes from Europe and some musicians can be found in whose passports American and Mexican birthplaces are mentioned. A bit sloppy, but that is mainly the annoyance of the fact-checkers, who then run into blockages that hinder an objective listening of this compilation. And perhaps the title refers to the locations where some of the (live) pieces were recorded. Many interpretations are possible.

Of the names presented, Bill Evans is the only name that will evoke recognition, for the rest is 12 Groovy Tracks Of European Jazz: Rare Jazz, Cool Beats filled with musicians, who do not immediately belong to the best-known category, but who via this collector can arouse interest and you can find music by, among others, Stan Tracey (UK, piano, house pianist in the 60s of Ronnie Scott's), Pat Smythe (UK, piano, worked with Ben Webster), Archie Cottrel (piano, UK), Bill Coleman (USA, trumpet), Joko Freund (D, saxophone), Albert Mangelsdorff (D, trombone), Wolfgang Dauner (D, piano), Jutta Hipp (D, piano), Roy Burrowes (UK , trumpet) and Peter Brotzmann (D, saxophone). All songs have also appeared on albums that Jazzhus has in the catalog.

12 Groovy Tracks Of European Jazz: Rare Jazz, Cool Beats, after several rounds in the circles, is an accessible and enjoyable collection of perhaps not the best names and contains a collection of jazz that can best be compared to the bebop, post bop and cool jazz, such as labels like Impulse and Blue Note usually release, just to name a stylistic side street and try to find clues. 12 Groovy Tracks Of European Jazz: Rare Jazz, Cool Beats: Apart from the sloppiness, the mysterious background of the label and the lack of a real line in the track listing, this compilation contains enough interesting material to give the album at least attention. to be given by listening. For the purist, often snobbish enthusiast, such collectors may cause stomach cramps because of all the ambiguities, but such material is not intended for these initiates either. Just put it on and listen and let the music soak in blank. And above all, don't worry about very important, but actually totally irrelevance and trivial details. Somes the facts stand in the way too much to be able to listen to music without prejudice. When the ability to get over this exists, this Jazzhus sampler is a nice mix of catchy jazz.
