The lavish box set ABBA - The Complete Studio Recordings comprised 9 CDs & 2 DVDs, plus a full colour booklet with line and photos. A separate booklet contained lyrics to all the songs contained in the box set. The Complete Studio Recordings marked the first ever release of a complete ABBA studio recordings set, and the first set to tell the ABBA story both through audio and video content.

CDs 1 to 8 featured each of the band's studio albums, plus all non-album singles and B-sides, and versions in Spanish, German, French and Swedish. CD 9 contained a selection of rarities, most of which were originally released after the band's heyday.

The nine CDs comprised every single studio-recorded piece of music commercially released by the Swedish group (under the name ABBA and/or Björn & Benny, Agnetha & Anni-Frid/Frida) on single, LP or CD. This included alternate mixes, but not edited versions nor extended versions (that did not feature alternate mixes). Some of the tracks had never been released on CD before.
