In the 1930's, the amateur American music archivists, John and lan Lomax set off around the southern United States carrying a 300lb tape recorder in search of the music they loved, recording some of the finest Blues of the period. Now 60 years later, the Lomaxes recordings are enjoying a spectacular reincarnation at the hands of the platinum selling artist MOBY. We get Vera hall's chillingly powerful original of Trouble So Hard ( the source of Moby's hit, Natural Blues), recorded in a field by Alan John Lomax in the 1930's, the equally ancient Joe Lee's Rock by Boy Blue and Willie Jones, which Moby samples on Find My Baby and another Lomax field recording on Somes by Bessie Jones, which forms the basis for Honey on Moby's two-million-selling album.
