"Their ultimate top 40 collection" - with 39 songs. That aside, this is a great collection even if, like me, you already have umpteen Pointer compilations and studio albums and it's only purchased for the rare Tight On (I'll Fit U In) by June Pointer. Tight On is from her 2nd and final solo album which is rather hard to get hold of on CD these days (it's crying out for a proper re-release going by the hundreds of pounds it commands second hand!). The usual suspects are, of course, present (Fire, I'm So Excited, Jump, Automatic etc) alongside some less well known tracks (Ens Like You And Me by Ruth Pointer & Billy Vera, Power Of Persuasion (From Caddyshack II). Also present are some Bonnie and Anita solo tracks which make a welcome appearance. So basically you get Pointer Sisters tracks from the original 4-piece, the chart topping trio version of the group and solo tracks from June, Bonnie and Anita and a Ruth duet. It's criminal Ruth never got the chance to record a solo album like the others. Her voice is all kinds of everything amazing. A major bonus on this compilation is the 2006 Natalia meets The Pointer Sisters version of Sisters Are Doing It For Themselves which closes disc 2 on a major high. Unless I'm mistaken, this song has never appeared on a Pointer compilation album in studio form before. There really are no words or reviews that can properly explain or do justice to just how legendary these ladies are. Songs like Happiness highlight just how sensational their harmonies were and it is very unlikely that we will ever witness magic like this from anyone else. For those wondering, the mastering on this compilation sounds great.
