This wildly eclectic 2-CD set presents 29 big hits from the 50s and early 60s, each followed by its respective riposte. Some of these were merely humorous, throwaway cash-ins, (e.g. The Romeos, Jeri Lynne Fraser, Carole King, Jo) although several turned out to be great records - and often, big hits in their own right - e.g. the sides herein by Gene Chandler, The Chantels, Skeeter Davis, Ted Taylor, Betty Cody, Goldie Hill and Rufus Thomas. In some cases the original singers - e.g. Buddy Holly, The Bobbettes, the Hollywood Argyles/Gary Paxton - "answered" their own hits, although a great many came from unknown, obscure artists.
